Anika’s Story

When Annika* first came to one of our Educare Centres, she was in a bad state, both physically and emotionally. She was going without food and had no clothes. We visited her home with the school principal and we soon found that her mother had left her due to alcohol addiction. There was barely anything in their home as they were unemployed. We decided to accept her into our Educare without paying school fees as there simply was no money for school fees.

When we first took Annika in during Term One, there were many struggles. She struggled to listen and concentrate on her school work due to the situation back home. However, after being with us for three terms, we have since seen so much improvement. It’s currently Term 4 and she is performing excellently in her school work, gained so much confidence, trusts the staff members and lets them know immediately if she has come to school without having anything to eat. We then lovingly make her a meal as our Educare Centres happily do for all its learners. We can foresee a very beautiful future for this little girl. A future of a world, full of possibilities.
